Convert MP4 to GIF

Turn a short MP4 clip into a GIF that plays by itself in chats, emails and slides.

How do I turn an MP4 into a GIF without uploading it?

To turn an MP4 into a GIF without uploading it, open FilesAll's MP4 to GIF, add your MP4 clip and press Convert to GIF. FilesAll makes a looping GIF that plays by itself in messages, emails and slides. GIFs have no sound. It all runs in your browser, on your own device.

How to convert MP4 to GIF in 3 steps

  1. Add your MP4

Press Choose files, or drag your MP4 clip onto the page.

  2. Check the size

A size that works well in chats and emails is already picked. Under More options you can make the GIF wider or change its speed.

  3. Download your GIF

Press Download to save the GIF. Your video is not changed.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my GIF bigger than the MP4?

GIF is a very old format that stores every frame as a picture, so it is much less efficient than MP4. Short clips and a smaller width keep the GIF small. To shrink it afterwards, use Compress GIF.

How long can the clip be?

GIFs work best for a few seconds. FilesAll makes GIFs from short clips; if your video is longer, it uses the first part and tells you.

Does the GIF keep the sound?

No. GIF files cannot hold sound. If you want the sound instead, use MP4 to MP3.

Why does the GIF look less smooth than the video?

To keep the file small, a GIF shows fewer pictures per second and fewer colors than a video. That is normal for every GIF.

My clip came from an iPhone. Does it work?

Usually yes. Some iPhone videos use a format called HEVC that not every browser can read. For more about iPhone and other videos, see Video to GIF.

Is FilesAll free?

Yes. You can use FilesAll free every day without signing up, and the tool shows how many free files you have left today. A free account gives you more each day, and Pro removes the daily limit.

Do I need to install anything?

No. FilesAll works in the web browser you already have, on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone and Android. There is nothing to install, and you do not need an account to start.

Are my files uploaded?

No. FilesAll does all the work inside your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to our servers or anyone else's, and they disappear when you close the tab.

Want to check for yourself? Your browser's developer tools list every request this page makes. None of them carries your file.
